Adeline Kuiken is a Licensed Massage Therapist who practices Zen Shiatsu; a traditional and holistic hands-on Japanese healing art.
WHAT IS SHIATSU?
Shiatsu is a traditional hands-on Japanese healing art, which supports and strengthens the body's natural ability to heal and balance itself. It effects the whole being, not only the physical body, but also the psychological, emotional and spiritual level of the body. I will be using touch, comfortable pressure and manipulative techniques to adjust the body's physical structure and balance it's energy flow. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience and regular sessions help to prevent the build-up of stress in our daily lives.

Shiatsu aims to optimize the way in which body and mind work together, helping each other to connect and communicate with other parts. It helps to resolve internal conflict (e.g. strong muscles over-compensating for weak ones), and to develop co-ordination and integration. It is about promoting better health, balance and happiness for each individual.
In my experience everyone has something to deal with each minute of their life: a work-life or body-mind balance, difficulties with letting go, recovering from a recurring ailment, a chronic disease, a painful back or joint, overweight, stress, sleeping problems or a search for purpose in life. Shiatsu assists in balancing the internal harmony and can help in healing of the underlying causes of a condition.
The best way though to get to know shiatsu is to have a treatment yourself and feel what it does for you.
ABOUT ADELINE
My name is Adeline Kuiken and I arrived with my family in Blaricum in September 2015. I am a Zen Shiatsu practitioner and a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT). Originally I trained as a pharmacist, then in 2008, while living in Tokyo, I first encountered Shiatsu. I went on to study at the Kimura Shiatsu Institute, reaching their advanced course level.
Inspired by this Japanese experience, when we moved to Istanbul I enrolled on the 3 year Professional Shiatsu Practitioner training with the Shiatsu College in London. Succesful graduation from this ratified and accredited school allowed my name to be added to the Shiatsu Society (UK)'s national Register of professional practitioners.In Istanbul I owned a fast growing practise with a lot of international clients including clients from a local AA-group.
When I then moved to Portland, USA, I took a Kinesiology course at the East West College and in October 2014 I obtained my LMT license. In Portland I worked as a volunteer, giving treatments to clients who were in hospice care. I visited the clients at home or in a care facility. So far I have given over 200 treatments, and I hope to give many more in Blaricum.

Please remember that this is not a medical treatment and it’s important to see your doctor first if you have any unusual or troubling symptoms.
How long is a session?
A first treatment mostly takes 1,5 hour, which allows us time to go through medical history and set up some wishes and goals for the treatment(s). Follow up sessions are mostly an hour and always start with a diagnosis.
What to wear
I work through clothes so please wear fairly loose, comfortable clothes – you’re welcome to bring something to change into before your treatment.
How to get here
Blaricum: Parking is possible on the street in front of the house. The address is: Raadhuisstraat 9, 1261 EW, Blaricum. The entrance is right across Raadhuisstraat 22. Public transportation: 3 minute walk from busstop Blaricum, Dorp.
Abcoude: The treatment space in Abcoude has a beautiful view over the Dutch fields. This location can only be reached by bike or car
Reimbursement
Shiatsu is reimbursed by a large number of health insurance companies. Whether and for what amount you are insured, you may find in your policy. Please check your supplementary health insurance policy and look under alternative medicine. A referral note from your family doctor or specialist is not required.
What are the rates?
1 hour treatments are 65 euro.
For children and young adults (-18) the treatment costs are 45 euro.
I can also offer concessionary rates – please contact me for details. Payment can be done with cash, card or by bank transfer.
Cancellation Fee
Please let me know in good time if you want to change or cancel an appointment. If you miss an appointment or cancel within less than 24 hours notice, there is usually a cancellation fee of 30 euro.
